Don't Play At Midnight! Prelude *FREE FOR FIRST 1000* (Early Alpha Tester)
A downloadable game for Windows and macOS
ABOUT THE GAME:
ANY DONATIONS WILL PRIMARILY GO TOWARDS ASSETS FOR THE FINAL RELEASE! :)
This game follows a real time day night cycle, so whatever time it is where you are, you will see approximately the same thing in the skies of this game (not accounting for polar extremes where the day-night cycle runs a bit different). Not only does it get dark at night, but you'll also find that although the undead are quite weak at noon, they are NOT to be underestimated late at night.
The minimalist story to this game will be integrated in the beta release, but I can't spoil my plans for the story line! You'll just have to come back when the project is finished to see what happens for those few who manage to survive the night. Currently, there is no reward for hitting the specified goal in the game, it is just a standard of achievement. There are however 6 different leaderboards you can compete on!
Download Instructions:
After you download the zip file for your platform, extract the zip contents to your preferred drive. In order to run the executable, you will probably need to run as administrator, and may be asked to bypass a security warning as this is currently unsigned.
MAC USERS - Try Right click -> Open instead of double left clicking if you aren't presented the option to bypass the certificate warning.
META-INFO:
This is the alpha test release of "Don't Play At Midnight! Prelude". I still have a TON of work to do on this game, but hoping to get to a beta release stage by June. If you have any interest in being a part of the private beta test phase, please let me know the best email to contact you and I will add you to the list!
Before leaving any feedback, please just glance over the following lists of my TODOs with this project. This is by no means an exhaustive list of my plans or the bugs I'm already aware of, but it's at least some of the most critical ones.
FEATURES TODO LIST:
- completion event (what happens when the goal gets hit. I have big plans for this part, but don't want to spoil anything! :))
- upgrading/enhancing the target practice/upgrade area
- more guns
- more enemy types
- tactical deployments (flares, energy barrier, etc)
- visual damage indicator (currently there is a watch to view your health, plus a sound when you get hit, but no visual cue that you're getting hurt)
- semi-permanent blood on surfaces to supplement the spray when shooting enemies
- level transition animation (e.g. screen fade out -> fade in or loading screen. leaning towards the former, as level transitions are quite quick)
BUGS TODO LIST:
- WINDOWS ONLY: Fix the material for the text on the left side of the TV set. These are, from top to bottom, Master volume, Sound FX volume, and Music volume. I'll try to get this fixed today (02/06) (Resolved 02/06 @ 12:24pm UTC-5)
- WINDOWS ONLY: Beaty Bird material missing. Fix incoming today. (Resolved 02/06 @ 1:37pm UTC-5)
- WINDOWS ONLY: 'Violent Animal' videos don't play correctly. *intermittent*
- WINDOWS ONLY: Initial gamma/brightness too low. For now, please go through the door behind you from the starting point, you will see the controls station where you can increase the gamma to fix this.
- fix black dots on the handgun that appear in direct lighting
- fix subtle rotations of the character itself when firing the rifle (I believe this is because of the method of attachment)
- refine and revise enemy AI pathfinding. Currently, this is very likely exploitable. I am considering adding a ranged, flying enemy (I have a pretty creeper spider character on standby 😱)to make it harder to get into any cheat spots IF there are any
